The Südbahnhof (German for southern railway station) is Vienna’s largest railway terminus. It lies in Favoriten, in the south-east of the city.
The city council agreed to build the station on December 15, 2006. Construction began in June 2007, starting with precursory items like the remodeling of the S-Bahn station Südtiroler Platz. In 2008, the S-Bahn and the U-Bahn stations at Südtiroler Platz will be connected with each other and the Südbahnhof will be demolished.
Construction of the station itself is expected to start in 2009, with the station becoming operational in 2011. The station is expected to be fully finished by 2013.
