Named for the muse of astronomy, the Urania was initially established in 1897 as a school for adult education. In 1910, it moved to its landmark building on the Danube canal. In keeping with the Urania’s philosophy of embracing and disseminating technical innovations, the building boasted a public observatory, planetarium and a movie theater.

Today, Urania Kino is a favorite spot for the Viennale, Vienna’s annual international film festival. The Urania’s recently renovated glass rooftop is the fabulous backdrop for the Viennale’s opening and closing parties, and VIP events. While hob-nobbing with celebrities can be fun, we go for the unbeatable view. A great film, the Danube and a glass of champagne…who could ask for more?Quote_transparent
