The Metro Kino is a nostalgic cineaste’s dream come true. Built on the foundations of a Belle Époque ballroom, the well-preserved theater from 1924 comes replete with dark wood paneling, crystal chandeliers and sconces, red velvet curtains and intricate ceiling stucco. On the occasion of its opening, the newspaper Neue Freie Presse raved about the theatre’s “air of a private salon.”

The main screening room of the Filmarchiv Austria, this stunning auditorium is the ideal setting for viewing the history of film right up to the present day. At the heart of each monthly program lie retrospectives and seasons. It also provides a superb venue for festivals such as the Viennale and the Jewish Film Festival.

An experience of a lifetime: viewing a silent film at the Metro Kino with live musical accompaniment. Unforgettable!Quote_transparent
