This renowned theater was founded in 1788 by request of the citizens of Vienna to offer a popular counter weight to the Hofburg Theatre.
It stages modern drawing room plays, and fine conversational comedies. It is run by Art Director Michael Schottenberg. Special attention is given to new productions of the classics and reinterpretations of works by Raimund and Nestroy.
