The Burgtheater is one of the oldest theaters in Europe (second after France’s Comedie Francaise). Built in 1888, this former Hapsburg imperial court theater is today revered as one of the world’s leading German speaking theaters.

These days the Burg presents a varied and broad program for spoken theater including: classics and contemporary pieces, as well as experimental theatre and readings. But even if you do not speak German, it is worth checking out the theater’s neo-Renaissance architecture and extravagant decor.

30 minute English-speaking tours are available.Quote_transparent
