Unlike new “designer” delicatessens, Böhle distinguishes itself with its tradition and exceptional quality. The Ruff family has appropriately chosen the lobster as their emblem.
Behind the counter are homemade patés, assorted cured ham, small pastries, and delicate finger foods that won’t exactly travel well in your suitcase. (Enjoy them in the dining room in the back.) But Böhle is one of the few places in town that sells Zauner Stollen, a dense chocolate, hazelnut, wafer and nougat confection, and it’s packed in an immigration-resistant box.
Not as well known as their deli products is their wine cellar in the basement. Note the very large selection of Madeira wine, liqueurs, and 150 kinds of beer—but check with your customs officials first before you bring home cases of Namibian beer.
