Self-proclaimed as “one of the most important poisons in Viennese electronic scene,” Rhiz is the venue for live experimental and avant-garde music. People really come here for the music. The music here goes beyond the superficiality of familiar pop compositions, sounds and technique. Instead, Rhiz offers various “excursions in sound” (by way of noise, improvisation, and new media practises) that challenge traditional notions of music.

Rhiz has been key in bringing attention to Viennese electronic artists such as Fennesz, Radian, Dorit Chrysler, B.Fleischmann, Gustav, Philipp Quehenberger and many others. It has provided a critical platform for local artists and instrumental in its network of similar-minded independents such as Skug Magazine and the record label Mego.

Located on the Gürtel, the bar consists a front room with bar and a performance room. Live shows are up close, the sound quality is excellent and the audience eager and enthusiastic. Rhiz has recently hosted shows by theremin player and composer Pamelia Kurstin and the noise artist Justice Yeldham. Rhiz Records, the in-house label, releases works by artists like Fennesz, Radian, and Orchestra 33 1/3.Quote_gray
