As the 2nd District slowly grows into its “it ‘hood” status—due to cheap rents—the inevitable has also followed: a cornucopia shops, cafes and art spaces. The result is a creative jump-start to the area. One such enterprising entity is c17, an artist-run enclave holding exhibitions and supporting young artists.

This promising “offspace” supports work by upcoming artists (such as Albert Bernhard, Bernhard Garnicnig, Thomas Braudisch, and Nils Jendri among others), helping them realize projects and present them to a broad audience. Founded in 2007, the project has hosted already numerous first-time solo exhibitions by young artists, put on live electro-acoustic music performances and is in the process of developing an independent art collection.
