An unusual venue hosting an unusual program. The theater sits in the middle of Rabenhof, a huge public housing complex built in the 1920’s. Originally created as a functions room for the working class, the space was converted into a movie house in 1934. Recently, the theater’s ugly wood paneling was removed, revealing gorgeous original Art Deco interior details including remarkably intact handmade glazed tiling.

At the grand re-opening gala in September 2008, the Rabenhof Theater unveiled one of the city’s most beautifully restored inter-war interiors. Exploring the gamut of culture from the high brow to the low, Rabenhof hosts a quirky mixture of music, cabaret, critical theater, readings and unclassifiable cult events like the Big Brother Awards.Quote_transparent
