Design buffs eager to furnish their lofts with rare mid-century pieces will hit the jackpot tonight at the staid Dorotheum’s increasingly popular design auctions. Fine vintage design objects lure in younger international crowds to these events, and it’s no wonder why.

Pieces like a Joe Columbo serving container with shelves for glasses and bottles—equipped with a radio, tape recorder and circular loudspeakers—and an extremely rare sideboard designed in 1918 by Gerrit Rietveld (coming from a Dutch private collection) will have bidders innocently asking, “What recession?”

Come on, you do eBay. Time to bid IRL.Quote_transparent
