 s working in reaction to local art movement\, Actionism\, which promoted ra
 dical performance meant to shock the art world. By the'70s West had begun m
 aking portable sculptures that he called "Adaptives" ("Paßtücke")&#8212\;
 objects meant to be carried around. These works spawned his now famous larg
 e-scale aluminum sculptures.\n\n\n	West's work continues to be concerned wi
 th public interaction\, which is clear from his furniture installations in
