The German composer who passed away last year is widely acknowledged as one of the most important but also most controversial composers of the twentieth century. Cited as an influence by musicians like Can, Kraftwerk, Frank Zappa or Björk, he is one of the few avant-garde composers who succeeded in penetrating the popular consciousness and popular culture. Most famously, he was included on the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.
